Since 1990 CIAI has started elaborating an intervention plan aimed at alleviating the dramatic consequences of the extreme poverty affecting childhood in developing countries. Not only in terms of survival but also in terms of the lack of opportunities to grow up and develop one's potential. The need for  rapid intervention in order to address children's basic needs and to be able to launch a process of long term development was the reason that first led us to consider child sponsorship as the best way to face these children's urgent needs.

Over the past ten years child sponsorship has not only contributed  to the immediate improvement of  thousands of children's lives but has also given them the possibility of a better future.  Furthermore it has  proved to be an effective means of making many Italians citizens aware of the grave problems facing developing countries. The main aims of the sponsorship programme are the following:

• To prevent child abandonment and the phenomenon of street children
• To ensure access to education for children who were being denied these rights
• To enhance the quality of education through funding the school infrastructure
• To  guarantee access to healthcare

The main beneficiaries of the sponsorship programme are:

• Children coming from poor families
• Children at risk
• Disabled children

How to support a child

To sponsor a child it costs less than 1 euro a day, 25 euro a month or 310 euro a year.

You will receive a photograph and personal information about his/her life and school activities.  Once a year you will also receive a report with news about the child sponsored and his/her family.
